Met up with Big C for the first time in ages on Monday. Chat got in the way of swimming, so only managed a km. Mrs Ape meanwhile did a mile – improving her time to 44 minutes. The lido is now down to 15 degrees C, but the sauna will not open until its 10 degrees or December 1st – whichever is earlier. This is in response to four faintings last autumn. People had forgotten to acclimatise as the temperature dropped and were standing in the showers, or sitting in the sauna, too long.
Couldn’t get to the lido yesterday, but as I was working up town, I decided to re-visit the Oasis outdoor pool in Covent Garden. Readers it was too blooming’ hot at 29 degrees C and I spent most lengths overtaking men moving their limbs furiously but not really propelling themselves very fast. Took me half an hour to cool down afterwards, despite going at a very leisurely pace. It’ll have to be very cold before I venture into a heated pool again. And the stench of the chlorine on me afterwards. Yuck.
