trip to Tenby

5 Aug

North Beach

Kate, I, Ethan and his friend Nickyle, all went to Tenby for a week to enjoy the beaches, walking, swimming and resting. We went by train, as the maps we had of Pembrokeshire showed us that we could walk to at least six beaches; and a few searches on Goggle revealed a few buses to take us further afield. We booked early, travelled cheap and were thankful not to get stuck on the M4 or have to detour around Cardiff, as one of the tunnels was closed. Six hours door to door by train, eco consciences salved, plenty to look at out of the window and an endless stream of free tea and coffee.

We swam off the North Beach every morning before breakfast. We were mostly alone for our half hour stretch, but were occasionally joined by some other hardy souls. Over the whole week we seldom saw anyone else more than 20 metres out from the shoreline; and several times were asked whether we didn’t think it was a bit cold. OUr response to this was to chuckle and think of Tooting Bec Lido swims at zero degrees C. We were also lucky to have high tide at about the same time as we were swimming each morning – 6.45am the first day and just after ten by the last. There was little wind all week, which also gave us the perfect water for swimming – although it was fun to get the odd bit of swell from a passing ferry.

We also walked up to Monkstone Beach -

With its amazing rocky landscape and swathes of sand -

Had a day out walking towards Lydstep Haven -

Giltar Point with Lydstep Haven behind

Another day at Manorbier Bay -

With its amazing rock formations at low tide -

And generally enjoyed taking it easy and being in a small town.
