Big C went out for dinner last night with an aspirant Channel swimmer. He was talking about swimming in cold water and his friend said that the founder of SwimTrek, Simon Murie held the record at Tooting Bec Lido for the coldest mile, at 11 degrees C. Now I keep good records (one part of my small collection of OCD type behaviours) and I, and maybe Big C, did a mile at 8 degrees last April 6th. But…I have never heard of a record for the coldest mile at SLSC. So it’s probably a swimming myth.

I doubt there’s an official record but looking back I was still doing a mile last November until about 10ºC. I sure you and Carl were doing more even then.
In fact I’ve done a mile this week, but it’s taken five days!
