Arrive at 8.30am. The sun is shining, but the pool is quiet. I’m puzzled, so are others. It’s the school holidays, there’s a massive expanse of water, with a cafe, a paddling pool and an acre of sunbathing opportunities. Where is everyone? Kate’s been ill overnight, so I am on my own. I’m feeling slow, so get in and do a very leisurely one km in 21 minutes. And then have a chat with Batch about artists various and the Tate Modern, Pip about swimming and training; and nod to the other regulars – Pippa, Ted, John, Vince, Alex, Elizabeth, Hilary, Tricky, Margy et al.
