Mrs Ape reports

Swam early today as I wanted to see and congratulate those returning from colder climes. See here for a film of the Winter Swimming World Championships.  and the photos that Nando has put up here,  show what a fabulous time everyone had, thanks to the very distinctive hats! Wonderful that so much metal was won through sheer mettle!

Unfortunately we also heard the very sad news that Dr Andy had a fall and had died yesterday. A club regular, who never seemed to miss a day and he celebrated his 90th birthday with us at the lido last year. Visions of him slowly but steadily making his way down the poolside chatting to people all the way and the familiar sight of his crutches at the top of the steps will be forever etched in my mind. An inspiration to us all.

Cake was definitely in order today – I made up my own using favoured ingredients – ground almonds, brown sugar, apricots and sultanas. They made a lovely moist cake, perfect for a rainy day and to share with friends in the café over a cuppa.
