A sunny day. A blast of sunshine in the midst of gales, storms and floods. A host of people down at Tooting. Some with tales of yesterday’s lido crawl, other tales of who is organising the band on 23rd December and is it us? Oohs and arghs about the temperature and the distance people swim. Cakes and biscuits in abundance. And Margy wants visitors – Egg has a checklist!
Down early to get a mile in before the races. Thought the sauna would be empty as there were only three or four in the pool with me at any one time, but no…it was packed with short dippers. Or those becoming acclimatised perhaps?
Cake, coffee and a couple of games of patball later – one gentlemanly (thanks Barry) and one competitive (thanks Martin) – then off to Peckham to teach some more people the art of making bread the slow way. But not before the marvel of Mrs Ape’s Apple and Cinnamon cake (recipe from Mary Berry).
