Down to widths unless you’re an icebreaker – Pip where are you? Long chat with Dave, a swim with Alex, chats with Chris S, patball with Sue R, Chris, Nick, Alfonso. Laughter with Jonny. And despite the ice still above 2C – a refreshing 400 yards.

Thanks Alex. I was quick for a width or two. I like it this cold, just the loss of feeling in the hands, but everything else feels wonderful.
Am I right that last year it had only just dropped below 10 at the beginning of December? This time we are really being “thrown in at the deep end” as the old saying goes. Ice is nice but like the pain in the hands does make it all the more difficult to have a proper swim. I am thinking that perhaps 6 to 8 is my favourite temperature. It is cold enough to be really cold but warm enough to not pose any real problems and you can still stay in to do quite a few lengths if you have acclimatised to it.
Peter – you’re right about the temp. Personally I prefer 10 to 15, but love the madness below 5.
