Cold Water Swimming Championships. I don’t think so. Freezing Water Swimming Championships more like it. A tiny plunge hole was all the SLSC members could get into this morning before the lifeguards dragged the glacier up to the deep end. Mrs Ape is slightly nervous about 450m in 0 degrees C (the pool freezes below zero due to the slight chlorination); as were the other endurance aspirants we spoke to. But the body is hardened and the mind will overcome the overriding desire to get out. Borrowing John Donald, the iceman of Parliament Hill Lido’s phrase, I tapered for my 30m dash by swimming 250m. Water just above zero C.
