A week by the seaside

Mrs Ape and I decided to get some warmer sea swimming in before the summer. And she’s also on school holiday. Neither of us had been to the Costa Brava, but our fellow swimmer Nando, said it was not over developed and pretty beautiful too. Mrs Ape used Google Earth to find a beach with a smallish town around; and some hills inland for walking; and she came up trumps with Tossa de Mar. Three beaches, old walled town, Moorish tower, medieval church and walks aplenty in the surrounding pine and cork tree forests. I swam two or three times each day, Mrs Ape once or twice. The water was a cool 12C and ranged from flat to big swells; and the tail end of some white capping on one day. All good practice for my long distance training camp and attempt at a six hour Channel qualifying swim at the end of April off Mallorca. Some pictures below to whet your appetite. But first some logistics – RyanAir to Girona, bus transfer to Hotel Diana, Tossa de Mar (@80€/night for two with massive breakfast). You can walk everywhere, there are some seriously good eateries and Tossa’s on the GR92. If you fancy some city culture, Barcelona’s a regular two hour bus trip away. And if you hate RyanAir so much you don’t want to give Mr Leary a penny of your hard earned dosh, then Easyjet it to Barcelona and get the bus north.

Super stunning Carlo. Thank you for sharing your musings from Tossa de mar and brightening up my journey on the 5.30pm York to London express. Looks like perfect preparation though 12 degrees a touch on the chilly side?
