I find myself wandering heath for wild water. It’s a cycling day. Mrs Ape and I drop in on Charlton Lido, witness an upbraiding from the local voice of the people, are generously treated with water refills, re-discover the delights of playful swimming, but still stick around the hour for the swim. After freewheeling down St Margaret’s Passage (oo er missus), we weave among the whites lines and wend our way back to Catford via the odd Magnificent Tree.
