John Donald, a man of far deeper cold water pedigree than me, organised the Parliament Hill Ice Swimming Hootenaney (PHISH), because he wanted a cold water championship this year. Who wants to wait another year? 105 hardy souls immersed themselves in what proved to be a relatively balmy 7C. The races were a lot longer than those at the CWSC – 122m, 244m, 60×4 Relay and a massive 1056m endurance – perhaps suggesting that the SLSC might be a little conservative in what it thinks possible? South London SC had a fair sprinkling of people present (we ran a South London Apes relay team and had various others in individual races); but the mighty hordes of rivers and sea swimmers predominated. Mrs Ape and I ran the reception with Poppy Hodges, and loved every minute of it. A pleasure to meet friends old and new; and especially to put faces to FB’ers.
