Skala, Kefalonia

31/08/2014 by Carl Reynolds

A week on a Greek island, with air temperatures in the mid-30s and water at around 24C. What’s not to like? Spent the week with Mrs Ape stretched out in the water or on a sun lounger – the former to keep up two hours of swimming a day (in preparation for the Scilly Challenge next weekend) and the latter to catch up on some psychological reading and a new approach to qualitative data analysis (I know, I know). Had some calm days and some lovely days of choppy water. The only difficulty being that the Scilly swims will be in water of 12 to 14C; and I’ve just been basking in 24C. We went on a bucket shop package deal – had good, but basic comforts (shower, air conditioning, towels, balcony); ate well and relatively cheaply; and best of all, did not see a single jelly all week. And the local beers, Mythos, Alpha and another which I can’t remember the name of, hic, were good too.
