A tradition at Tooting is a wall game called, variously, pat ball or handball. It’s a close cousin of the myriad games played by boys against school walls up and down the country. And in the finest tradition of gender exclusivity, it’s still mostly played by grown boys at Tooting. Despite my anti-competitive nature, I too am a keen aficionado.
