BIG January

Spent much of this month working on the finishing details for the 1st Buckfastleigh Ice Gala (BIG). Looked good earlier this month when the temperatures were dropping – London lidos were reported as low as 3C – but on the day BIG was a balmy 8.6C. We had a turnout of 85 swimmers in a mixture of relays, freestyle and head-up breaststroke. The finalists in the freestyle entertained us with a length of crawl and a length of fly – which made it more of a race; and there was a wonderful mix of those doing it for fun and those who can swim fast! The Dart Divas were splendid in their pearls and Newton Abbot College sent three teams of teens to chill.

Meanwhile indoor pool sessions (an hour is getting easier, but I’m supposed to move to 75 mins next week!) and regular dips in the sea (with regular seal accompaniment at the moment) are keeping me fit, along with a transition to front of the foot running.
