Mark, Fiona, Sally, Andrew and I arrived pre-dawn to see the sun edging the clouds and illuminating the far horizon. Our full moon, hidden by the hill behind, cast ethereal light over the sea. Standing in the pre-dawn chill we resolved to change quickly – no faffathletes us! – and in. Cold, took my breath away. And even trying to mentally relax into the cold, I was still chill. I have unacclimatised, dehabitualised and am the chilly ape. Need more blubber? I think not; just more time in to get used to the madness.
Then messing about and giggling as we change, the sun rose magnificently over the cloud bank and anchored cargo ship, and we were off to find a greasy spoon for some eggs and bacon. The Ilsham cafe in Wellsfoot is eccentric, friendly and does a fair breakfast for £3.75. Yum.
