Down to St Just for a few days to celebrate my birthday and the transition from Summer to Autumn. Not quite Ausum this year, as we were accompanied by rain, more rain and temperatures lower than usual. There had also been reports of hundreds of Portuguese Man O War, the sea was a ‘mare with white horses riding merrily along two to four metre swells and spraying spittle up the cliffs around. So no swimming in the sea. But we did immerse ourselves in the triangular Jubilee Pool on the edge of Penzance.
Which felt cold as we walked in. The lifeguard had it as 15C, but it felt much colder than the sea in Torbaydos. I guess we have the Riviera factor to thank in Devon.
As to the rest, walks up hills, along coasts, in forts, magical places, galleries, foodie delights and encounters with other emmets.
We stayed at The Barn in St Just ; ate out for my birthday at the wonderful The Shore; walked to Chun, Brae, Bran, Grumbla, Bratinney, Glaver, Gurnard, Euny, Sennen, Knedijack; visited the amazing work of Kurt Jackson; and enjoyed being at the beginning and the end.
