For many years (2011 to 2020) this blog was about swimming, where to swim and the range of responses that swimming indoors and outdoors evoked. I deleted all the content at the start of 2021, in response to the growing need to protect spaces from human despoliation. We are out of control. Individuals claim that they do not harm, leave no trace and are mindful of spaces; but they share with their friends, who share with their friends and before you know it a riverbank is eroded, a riverbed is no longer a viable habitat for a range of wildlife, the approach to a pool is no longer safe for ground nesting birds and so on. In the clamour for individual rights we forget the rights of the non-human and of the collective human race to survive and thrive on this planet. If you have your wits about you, read a map and look for places, but please don’t share. I’m not going to share any swim spots or content that might contribute to the ongoing destruction of the planet we live on.

In the meantime, I’ll use this blog to post about music I like, ideas that provoke my thinking and books I’ve read.
